Volunteer
Individual Volunteers Southern Crescent Habitat for Humanity is a volunteer-driven organization. We welcome people from all walks of life to join us in building simple, decent, affordable houses in partnership with God and families in need. Although the vast majority of volunteers have no construction experience or building skills, volunteers are involved in most phases of construction. Working side-by-side with the family who will purchase the house, our volunteers experience for themselves the joy created when a family is able to realize their dream of homeownership. Southern Crescent Habitat for Humanity welcomes all groups of volunteers to help with the Habitat mission. We strive to make the experience a rewarding, fulfilling, and fun experience for everyone involved.
To volunteer as a group, a group leader or representative must first register using the Become a Volunteer link to the left. Then create a group from the registered volunteers menu. Once this is complete, the group leader or representative will be able to register the group members individually or send them an email to join the group. ♦ Each group member must complete the online orientation. ♦ We are currently accepting group volunteers for the 2009 construction calendar. Please pick a date that is at least four weeks out to allow for proper planning and coordination. You don’t need to be a construction expert to help with the Habitat mission. Most people think of swinging a hammer when they think about volunteering for Habitat. But there is a tremendous amount of planning and management required to build just one home. We have a constant need for volunteers and committee members to help with a variety of non-construction tasks.
Some of these non-construction opportunities are perfect for our younger volunteers (under the age of 16) and families who'd like to serve together. ♦ Committees With a minimal staff, Southern Crescent Habitat depends upon volunteer committees for support with projects like Family Selection, Family Support, Public Relations, and more. Visit our Committees page to learn more about the many great ways to serve in this organizational capacity. ♦ Office/Clerical/Teaching We can often use help at the office answering the phone, greeting visitors, filing, data entry, preparing mailings, etc. We are particularly in need of experienced receptionists on Wednesdays. ♦ Teaching We are recruiting volunteers with extensive knowledge in any phase of home maintenance, life skils or construction to teach our partner families and volunteers in workshop settings. ♦ Lunch Service or Provider: This is a great opportunity to help build a house with out raising a hammer! Individuals and/or groups are needed to provide lunch at a build site for construction volunteers. For more information about providing lunch for a build day, contact Alberta Grover at 770-477-2367 or [ email ]. Use the link above at left to Become a Volunteer.
