schabitat.org: Property

We regularly accept donations of free and discounted land and homes in varying conditions. Land must be appropriate to residential use and meet our zoning needs. Homes will be evaluated for feasibility and cost of rehabilitation.

As a non-profit builder/developer serving Clayton, Fayette and Henry Counties, Southern Crescent Habitat for Humanity faces many of the same difficulties in securing land and financing that traditional developers struggle with. The economy has affected our financial donations at the same time that land has become available at appealing prices. We are daily working on creative financing structures and working closely with banks and lending institutions to acquire land and homes capable of rehabilitation that we may rely on to carry our mission into the future.

While we always have our ear to the ground and our site selection committee is regularly on the look out for land and homes we can use to support our mission, we welcome your assistance with our search. If you know of an available parcel of land, or a foreclosed property capable of rehabilitation, or if you are interested in the sale or donation of your property, we’d like to talk to you! Donations or sales at below-market value may qualify as tax deductions in your income taxes.

Please note that we are required to meet existing zoning restrictions and building codes. Our maximum square footage for the homes that build is currently around 1400 square feet, thus all land and homes must be appropriate to meeting that guideline. We also pay applicable infrastructure costs to put in roads or sewage lines when needed. We do not purchase property in a floodplain or other unsuitable location, nor do we mediate inheritance issues.

We can be creative with difficult properties that meet our minimum requirements – so please run it by us!!
