Building On Faith...
An interfaith build hosted by Jonesboro United Methodist Church
Sept. 11 - Nov. 20

Thank you for visiting our site to learn more about the opportunity to Build on your Faith, and provide safe, affordable housing for local, low income families with Southern Crescent Habitat for Humanity.  This incredible opportunity has been made available to Southern Crescent churches and faith organizations of all denominations as an initiative of a local coalition of Methodist churches, and the generosity of an anonymous donor whose kindness will double the impact of this build – by sponsoring a second home.  And while we are building right here in the Southern Crescent, our house for a house tithe to Habitat for Humanity International on this project, will build two more homes for low income families in Honduras.

The Building on Faith initiative, will kick off on September 11, 2010 at The Avery, an exclusively Habitat, EarthCraft certified “green” community in Jonesboro – we look forward to working with your church and congregation on this exciting project.

Special thanks to Coy Hinton, District Superintendent of the Atlanta College Park District, and Rev. Vicki Smith, Pastor of Fairburn First UMC and the ACPK Connectional Ministries Team. This project would not have been possible without their enthusiastic leadership and support.

How To Show Your Support

  • Financial contributions:  Each congregation is asked to contribute at least $1000 to participate in one day of building on the site during this initiative.
  • Talent contributions:  Your congregation is made up of individuals with a vast array of talents; however for our purposes the most important of those are the skilled trades (plumbing, HVAC, electricity) for which we normally incur substantial cost.  If your congregation includes individuals with those talents, please consider asking them to donate those services and/or materials as your financial contribution.  Tax receipts for deduction of that (in-kind) donation are available to those businesses that contribute in this manner!
  • Time contributions:  We welcome volunteers of all skill levels to participate on our sites; however we understand that swinging a hammer isn’t for everyone.  Consider the other opportunities we have for your congregation members to participate such as:  site hosting (working the sign in table); lunch sponsor (make or purchase lunch for the day’s volunteers); lunch service (assist with the lunch delivery, set up, and service); beverage donor (full or partial build – provide cases of water, large powdered Gatorade mix; sodas for volunteers on site.)

Join Building On Faith!

To become involved, please approach your Pastor, Preacher or faith leader to discuss the possibility of participation by your faith organization, and then call us to set up a meeting to discuss your role, or click  below on the date that is most appealing to the majority of your congregation.  You will be prompted to send an e-mail, in which you should let us know what date you are considering and we will confirm availability.
